Ordinances Ready

Utilize the Ordinances Ready feature. Remember: we need to keep adding people to FamilySearch for this feature to work effectively.

5

The 3 MAIN Steps

For EVERY person you seek info for, repeat these three steps:

  • 1Search FamilySearch for missing dates/places (Birth, Marriage, Death, Census) and known sources.
  • 2Look in Ancestry Trees to find and add sources/info that apply to your person.
  • 3Look in Ancestry Records to find and add any remaining sources/info.
6

Attaching Sources

Include strictly: Name, year, event, and place of event in Source Titles.

  • From FamilySearch: Use Hints and Records (always add event date for sequential sorting).
  • From Outside FS: Use Source Box for Premier Websites, Web, etc.
7

Merging Duplicates

Review how to Find Similar People and Merge Duplicates if needed for the patron at this stage.

8

Correcting Errors

Review the process for Correcting and Editing Errors if necessary for the patron's progress.

Premier Websites

Setup access to Premier Family History Websites (free for members) if necessary.

10

Keep it Simple

Don't overwhelm. Limit sessions to under an hour. Schedule follow-ups if needed. Direct patrons to do all steps on their own Tree.
